I'm going to look at a 89 fxr in the morning is there anything i should look for problem wise? I ride a 07 sporty now and was hoping the fxr would give me and the wife more room. $5000 is the asking price is this a fair price? The only thing i can see wrong with it is that it is not in my grage now.

 

as long as its clean and the motor runs strong thats a deal just check normal stuff brakes bearings etc i love mine

Check the primary and see if there is too much oil in it. If there is, the crankcase is leaking oil through the drive shaft bearing into the primary. Serious problem with no easy fix. Drive shaft bearing race was not mated well to the case in those years. Don't ask me how I know. For the Softails, anyway. Don't know if the FXRs had the same problem, but since it's the same engine ...

i dont think your going to find to many big bikes for $5000.00, so if it sounds good and doesnt smoke id say go for it.

 

Loved my 89. slapped a brand new motor in, just broke in when dumb lady makes u turn from parking space... head butt at 40mph... I fixed that new lexus, she trys to leave the scene but The impact broke her axel.... replaced the 89 with a 94..They won't get me with that one again...
