Well, my beloved Valvoline 20w-50 dino oil has finally reformulated and has gone to the dreaded SN rating! I'm thinking now Spectro dino which stays at SF/SG, but will weigh any and all advice for a 98 Low Rider with 40k on her. No synthetics please.

No, not the VR1 racing, but the 4T dino oil. It used to be SJ, but changed this year due to reformulation, and less and less older bikes. The SN and moving forward future alphabet soup S+, will be lacking more and more in pollution creating Zddp. That's the stuff that keeps valves well lubed. https://www.thoughtco.com/debunking-...-legend-726162
I know I'll get feedback about not knowing what I'm talking about, but It's what's best for an old EVO. Ask, or read Donny Petersen for more on the subject.

Ignore that link, our bikes are not 'classic' in the sense they describe and post-date the demise of leaded fuel. I don't see how reducing ZDDP is going to adversely affect our Evos - Shovels perhaps, which have never been over-hauled. Upgrading to modern valve seats and valves will cure the problem anyway, if bad things happen.
I owned a V-12 Jaguar car for many years, around the time that leaded fuels over here were being phased out and wrote to Jaguar about my concern. With two dozen valves and seats to go wrong you can understand my innocent anxiety! They politely replied that all their cars had been built to meet unleaded specs since the early 1970s and I could drive on with impunity.
I guess I'm the odd man out here. I'm still using Harley-Davidson oil, and have been for 30 years. 124,000 miles on the current motor and it runs like a champ.

Same here, but I only have 59,000 on my 1996 FLSTN
