Default SE Heads

Hey guys long time member but 1st time poster.
A question about earlier se heads.
I have a near stock 97 Electraglide standard. Carbed. Se filter s&s slip ons. Cam bearing and lifters done by previous owner less than 6k on them. Bike has 30kmiles.

I can pick up a set of barely used SE Heads for cheaper than I can get my stock heads ported here in New Zealand.
I know they will bump up compression to 9.5 or thereabouts. Will use a 0.030 head gasket.
I have a Ev27 to go in.
I cant find much info on the heads.
Question is i take it I'll need to use adjustable pushrods as they are shaved from SE to bump up compression?.

They use a smaller 72cc combustion chamber to get compression bump, not shaved down, stock push tubes will be fine. They are not bad heads just allows gains deeper in the rpm where reworked stock heads can get more down low basically because of the SE's raised port design. The bolt on compression bump is the SE's strength and followed the famous Branch bathtub chamber redesigned Evo heads, the SE's valve seals are known to be junk out of the box but use a smaller metric valve stem size.

Welcome and don't be a stranger, good people here.

Got over 40K in my SE heads, good value and never had any valve seal issues.

40K in a set of heads? Is this head porter inside NASA?
Just messing with you, they have the old style seals and reports of them tearing by head guys, sounds like yours have been good ones, ride on.

Thanks, its Good to know I can use stock push rods, saves me some $$. Can spend that on an ignition instead. Well when I have the money too.
I had read they are more top end vs ported stock heads. I spend most of my time in the 3000rpm up rev range. Hit the limiter all to frequently. So should be ok with the SE Heads.

Also does anyone have 1997 flh factory service manual they want to sell? Cheers

They are good heads. I run them on both of my FXLR's. You will like them, OP.

Have decided to buy them.
The raise in compression from the hads and .030 head gasket Will go well with the ev27.
Its gonna be a while before I get the build under way.

hi this notice from the manual Dynojet

Emulsion Tube & Mixture Screw Instructions

Use the BJ175 main jet with a completely stock bike. Use the BJ185 main jet with an aftermarket exhaust and airbox. With aftermarket exhaust, airbox and cams use the BJ195 main jet . With extensive motor work ie: cams, pistons, head work, airbox, and high flow aftermarket exhaust, it may be necessary use the BJ200 main jet.
