Default Dynatek 2000 install tips

Because I can’t leave well enough alone, I picked up a 8-pin Dynatek 2000 HD1E8P for my ‘99 FXR2. I thought I had to run one cable to the coil for the tach signal, but the instructions say that’s only necessary for single fire setups. I’m going to leave it as dual fire for now. Ordered a SE coil and wires from Boardtracker, but they won’t be here for a few more days. I’ll start with 6000rpm rev limit and curve 2.

Are there any other tips or things to look out for? Seems like there’s not much for me to screw up...

If it is 8 pin, should be plug and play...

Installed it today. Would have taken 5 min, if the genius who designed the OEM module left enough room around the 3/8 nut holding it, for me to get a damn socket on it, instead of making me dick around with it for 20 min before finally getting a thin needle nose on it... Thankfully the Dynatek does allow enough room to get a socket on it.

Anyway, I fired it up an it initially ran like ****. So I checked the switches and saw I had it set for single fire instead of dual fire. After beating myself about the head and face with a wrench, and setting it correctly, it started right up. It was crap weather so I only went a couple of miles, but it ran great. I can’t make a judgement until I get some time on it though.

I have a SE coil and wires arriving Tues. I’ll see if this did anything when I put it on a Dyno on Thurs.

Make sure the new plug wires are not actual steel wires. These modules require the carbon core wires... Others can create signal interference..

Thanks. They are OE HD Screamin Eagle wires. I don't see any docs/description on them on the HD website. Hopefully in the docs that should come with them...

Actually, here's the description, sounds like they are ok:

"These custom 8mm terminated plug wire sets are larger in diameter than stock wires and feature silicone plug boots and suppression core so that your electronic ignition is not affected. Use with your stock production coil or the perfect addition when upgrading to one of our Performance Coils."

I almost warned you about the single fire vs. dual fire switch....had the same thing happen to me, I guess I should have warned you. Glad you got it all figured out. YD

Adjustable rev limiter & advance curves, single or dual fire options, & the timing LED makes it very easy to set the timing.
