Noises can be decieving. What I thought might be valve train clatter at certain rpm's turned out to be a vibration from my brake pedal.

You definitely do not need to concern yourself with a little start up noises. If the valve sits open, spring pressure bleeds off lifters.. So depending on last stop and how long it sits, you can get some valve noise and piston slap till heat and oil pressure builds. Everything still has oil film, so nothing gets hurt.

I second that. Over the years I’ve chased “engine” noise that turned out to be:

rattling gas caps
rattling brake pedal
rattling footboard
a broken oil tank mount that allowed the oil tank to vibrate against the frame
and most recently, vibrating shift linkage.

Like I’ve said, my bike’s favorite game is called, “guess what THIS noise is, Uncle G.”

Use a stethoscope or long screwdriver to try and isolate exactly where the noise is coming from, If the noise changes with the oil pressure changes that is a pretty good clue, but still could be lifters or pump. You likely will have to take the cam chest cover off and have a look.
