When I'm trying to find info like this I'll go to JP Cycle or Dennis Kirk and find for the item (speedo drive) then look at the fitment tab. Many times you can determine what parts are used on what year bikes, are they interchangeable with other models, etc. 1996 was a cable drive but not sure after that.

vs the MoCo dealerships with an online parts lookup????
I do Not have that kind of Trust for Chiwanese Parts Vendors....
Sure. When you ask for a throwout/release bearing and the parts guy can't find it then tells you it doesn't exist - Why would I trust them? I had to tell him where to find it. I'm guessing we've had different success with them and the parts books. Parts book didn't list parts to put a late model wheel on an older bike but does that mean it can't be done? We found a way.
Just use it for what it is - a reference tool. I've had very good success with it. Seems to me folks put too much faith in the book and it prevents them from thinking outside the box (or parts book).

Yep... I need to think more outside of the Box
On my 1983 FLHT, I really needed the O.E. Parts book... Not the "Vendors"
