Default Posing another motor question?

I having been saving for a new black edition v111. Now a guy I know that is friend of a friend is selling a slightly used v96 s&s motor (Gray). Long story short is I can get the 96 inch motor for about 2900 bucks. Should I say screw it and get the 96 inch with about 5k miles on it or wait to get the 111. If I wait I can get the 111 after Christmas but I could save a few bucks by buying the 96.

Talk me out of it or into it

Get what you want- or you'll always regret it. Plus you get to break in your own motor.

Seriously if I was to replace the entire motor and was planning on a 111"er I'd be patient and forget about the 96"er... There no substitute for cubic inches....

No replacement for displacement: another vote here. I'm not keen on mystery motors. Too many "ran when I put out away" stories.

The 111 is a 4 1/8" stroke engine.
The 96 is a 4 5/8" stroke.
I have a 96 and I do like it but it has some vibration when ya get it wound up.
I can't help but think a shorter stroke engine is going to vibrate less.
Now that would be with all else being equal (like no wheel shift).
I definitely would go for the V111.

Did you say warranty? Hmmmmm.... That's something to think about plus you get an upgraded ignition and the S$S E... Sounds like a deal breaker, it should I say deal maker.....

There is always a reason someone is selling a "slightly" used motor with 5k miles...and it usually not the one they are telling you...

If you go for what you want you'll never regret it. If you settle for what you can get it'll never be what you wanted.
