Default Why is it?.....

Why is it, when the weather is just right, the temperature is just right, the road is just right.... My EVO runs beyond fantastic?

And it makes me paranoid...

I like to tell people it's my first and last Harley. I've owned it since new. It's got so many stories, and a lot of them I dare not share.

With the crap weather patterns I've been seeing, it's been hell to get any good riding in. And I mainly use it to commute to work. 15 miles, 30 mile round trip.

I love the old bitch, but I know she can hurt me if she is in the mood....

Yup....You have those days on an older bike...one that you've shared a lot of time and MILES with.
When my 1985 FXRS got to 70,000 mi. I considered replacing her with a new bike, but couldn't find exactly what I wanted at the time. Eventually I just made a commitment to myself...to just keep her on the road. We've been down 290,000 mi. now. From the Atlantic to the Pacific, Canada to Key West and still counting.
She's loaded up again, and ready to roll out. When I close this laptop later this morning I'll be throwing my leg over and heading out on a 2,000 mi. RT for Rolling Thunder.
Wish me luck...

I've had my 85 FXWG from new also.
Around 2011, although it was still running perfectly, I decided to do some minor motor work to wake it up.
I did pistons/rings, cam, cleaned up the heads, S&S E carb, and all the usual maintenance stuff while I was in there like lifters/bearings and adjustable pushrods. Until then the motor was 100% stock original.
The bike runs fantastic, and now I'm almost done putting all the cosmetics back to stock.
After 35 years there is no way I could put a dollar amount on it's value to me, and even though I have 3 other bikes this one's not going anywhere.

I hear ya. My '98 usually runs good, but when the moon is full and the wolfbane is in bloom and the planets perfectly align it runs like a raped ape.

Red face

My first Harley was a new FX1200 - darned thing loved the rain! Engine was gagging to GO, even when the roads were awash and visibility was awful - and the tyres and brakes didn't work once soaked! Wasn't so keen when the weather was hot, but it did teach me to ride a bike. Later H-Ds have all been more sensible.

My 93 has many, many miles in rain. A lot of those miles in outright downpours at interstate speed. Never faltered. I don't believe any air cooled motor loves heat. Mine gets exceptionally 'noisey' when the temps are above 90 degrees. I've also done a number of long rides in sub-40 degrees. And, unlike myself, the bike never has complained. But the real 'sweet spot' for mine is in the 50-70 degree range. No wind, cool night air, smooth pavement. Set the cruise control at 70 mph, and she keeps clicking off the miles. All the while purring like a big tiger.

Parting with it, would be like cutting out a chunk of my soul.

Not sure why it would make you paranoid as your bike wants to go for a ride just as much or more than you do!!!!!!
