My 1995 Softail has 28k miles on it . If it sits for a long period of time , when you start it . It has a loud ticking in top end . After it idles for a couple minutes and gets warm it is back
to normal . What would be causing this . Worn lifters , cam or maybe oil pump ?
Got a cam in it? Stock lifters usually only go about 25,000 miles after that.
When I took mine out (long time ago), the needles were falling out of the bearings.
Might even see base gasket leaks before it warms up too.
Ride it more often or at least run it. Just like bottom breathers, if you let them sit too long they will puke. Keep oil circulating by riding more often. Lifter are not the only thing that are losing oil/lube.
