Default 1985 fxrt

Found this bike, and asking if it would be worth picking to mess around with.
miss my 94 evo dyna glide custom,so I’ve been looking for another one to fix up to run around home.
Haven’t went looked at it yet,but I think I will to feel out the owner and see if it is everything he says it is.
Have a 2017 Roadglide special to ride, that I have done a bigbore on,it’s fun and very strong.but dang I still miss my old evo.

Looks like an ok deal for a project. I saw they said that they ground the mid control mounts off. I would check the frame out good and make sure its not structurally damaged. I wouldn't be afraid to walk away from it if it looks to be too messed with. Theres plenty of non molested Evo's around to be had on the cheap. Just gotta look and be patient. I have a 98 evo lowrider that I picked up a few years ago . It was clean and just needed some TLC. A year later I got a 18 roadking special. Its nice having the old school feel and sound of the evo and the power and smoothness of the m8.

I wouldn't go higher than $2.5k.

I purchased my 1985 FXRS new, in 1985. Still have it because it's proven to be an awesome bike and the Motor company has yet to offer anything I would rather ride. I suppose my affection for genuine 85's is why I'm commenting here.
There are 2 things about that ad that are raising big red flags for me.
1. "Driven 10,000 mi." Really..??? In all the years I've been on 2-wheels, a LOT of it in or near Clarksville,TN I've never heard anyone talk about "driving" their bike. As in: "I think I'll drive the bike down to Nashville today".
The Syntax is just wrong. That bothers me and causes me to question the ad's legitimacy right away.
2. Syntax aside...the ad claims 10,000 mi. OK...that's NOTHING on a 1985 motorcycle. In fact...especially on such a "rideable model" it's barely broken in, yet someone did a LOT of serious modifications to what they claim was an FXRT originally. (For comparison: I've ridden MY 1985 bike 295,000 mi., and counting) Someone bought an FXRT and within the first 10,000 mi. felt it necessary to GRIND OFF pieces of the frame..?? Hmmmm....
The operational issues don't really bother me too much because with a 34 yr old bike...a lot of those things are not unusual, especially if it really hasn't been ridden more than 10,000 mi. in all those years.
I'd want to see an original title and check the frame numbers against motor company records to see what it was when it left the factory. I'm wondering if this bike isn't some kind of "project bike" built on the frame from a wrecked FXRT. Still might be OK...but that adds a lot of uncertainty. I wouldn't put 3 grand in it.
Well, that's my humble opinion...and worth what you paid for it.
