I'm with THC - traction and performance far outweigh mileage concerns when it comes to motorcycle tires. I went from the stock Dunlops to Continental Milestones for a few years, and found them to be a big improvement. My last two sets of tires have been Avon Cobras. They haven't given me high miles (none of these tires do), but they feel great on the road.
Avon fan here also, the new Cobra Chromes suppose to get higher mileage, even though I still get 10k+ miles on rear tires, about double for fronts, on my heavy baggers, always 2up, and I don't run them past the wear bars.
Why I think I get decent mileage out of any tire I use is because I use tire pressure/heat monitors on all my bikes(TPMS), I NEVER run them low psi.
Low pressure and heat will drastically reduce tire mileage.
I think maybe the type of pavement make a difference too, I notice more wear in mountain areas, could be the aggregate used, I notice the roads in the mountain areas sparkle in the sun, roads around home don't.
