Default Advice

Found a 1996 Dyna Convertible. Looks sharp. Has 82k on the clock. Man has owned it 9 years. He also has service paperwork from the previous 2 owners. Had cylinders resized with pistons and rings at 22k. Had rear cylinder re-ringed at 53k for a leak according to paperwork. Regular oil changes, spark plugs, etc. He said $3000 would buy it. It runs good, pulls good, shifts good. Didn’t see any smoke after it got hot from a cold start.

Thoughts from some you that have had evo’s longer than I? Would you be afraid to buy it and ride?

sound like a good buy from what you listed ... Evo's are famous for base gasket leaks at the rear cylinder ... letting them warm up is the key to a happy life with an Evo ... I've got over 150k on one of my bikes and over 110k on another, so mileage is not a problem if taken care of ... if you're good with the bike and the price, go for it amd enjoy ...

In the current marketplace, I suspect that $3,000.00 is a top price for that bike, but a decent Evo that's not all ragged out (mechanically) or overly "customized" into some kind of "Franken-bike" is a GREAT bike, and you'll have to look far and wide for a GREAT bike for $3,000.00.
I'd most likely rather have THAT bike than a lot of newer used bikes for twice the money.

If the bike is clean in appearance $3k is more than reasonable for around here, in fact cheap. In my area a Big Twin that looks presentable is not going under $4.5k. less than $3k looks like somersetting that lived at the beach for years uncovered. For that price seems you couldn't get hurt, mileage is not a lot when you think about the years. Good luck.

With miles I would not pay over 2500.00 or less. Make an offer of 2000.00 and see.

By the time it had only 53k on the clock it had two top end jobs. My EVO went 89k before the first top end. Sounds to me like it was mistreated, maybe rode hard and worked on by people who didn't know what they were doing.

Not trying to throw tomatoes at this deal or anything but that's what I'm reading.
