Default 1997 FLHTC electrical problem?

This is first attempt a starting bike. Sat in garage on battery tender since December.
full charge on battery. When I try to start I’m hearing faint buzz or hum from under fairing.
Any help on what this may be? Thanks

Could wasp or bees....etc.....get into the fairing somehow? Doubt that’s your problem, but I’ve seen crazy things before.

It was running in Dec, right? Battery is fully charged, and you know it can take a load. Take off the trigger wire that goes to your starter solenoid. Put a test lead on the wire end. Turn bike on, hit the start button. You should get around 12 volts. If not, start going backwards... relay, main breaker, ignition breaker.

Clarify:

When you try to start, does the starter crank the engine, or do you just hear the sound in the fairing?

Just because the battery was on a tender does not mean it is good.

How old is the battery?

Don`t waste your time chasing down an electrical problem until the battery has passed a load test.

Battery new last season.

No crank. Just the hum

A quick thing to try...swap the starter relay and the brake light relay (also, clean the terminals on the relay).

See if that cures the problem.

If that doesn`t work, time to start at the basics.

Have the battery load tested, while it is out, clean all the battery cable terminals, battery end, solenoid end, ground...

Clean the small connector on the solenoid.

Just because the battery was new does not mean that it is still good. Take it to an auto parts store, and have it load tested.
