Default Just Ranting!

Whoever at the MoCo thought it was a good idea to have the left rear hex cap screw on the rear rocker cover be so close to the frame should be drawn and quartered!

I had to buy a special, low-profile wrench to get it off, but now I can't finger tighten that screw enough to get the wrench on it!!! My next step is to cut the end off of an allen wrench and see if I can get that to fit!

An extra 1/2 inch at most would make all the difference.

I got that flat wrench as well. I'm real careful with it, but it allows a torque wrench, so it holds up to that. Looks like it would break if slightly abused.

There is a little Harley(?) tool that is like a spud you can drop in there. It's a step bit nicer than cutting up an allen wrench.

That’s what I do, then use a flat wrench. It’s tedious but works.

So here's what I did. I cut a 1/4" section off of an old 3/16" Allen wrench, tucked it into the hex cap screw, then used a 3/16" open end wrench to tighten it down on the rocker cover. Worked like a charm!

That's what I did to tighten the intake to head bolts.

not sure what bike you have but I know on my softtail if I remove the seat there's a hole in the frame to go straight down to that bolt.. I never have any issues...

I've got a '93 FLHTCU. There's no hole. Just a nice, solid, impenetrable frame!

Maybe, just maybe that's what the Moco did to remedy the problem... Just didn't figure it out till years later..

It's not impenetrable as I have a friend that drilled a hole in his to be able to access that bolt easier.

They only did that to the softails because even with the special wrench there is no way to get that bolt out without the hole.
That said I helped a friend of mine with his '92 bagger and using the special wrench I found it extremely easy to get that bolt in and out.
The rear rocker boxes are also ridiculously easy to get off a bagger compared to a softail.
