Default Harley FXR2

I just picked up a FXR2, but It's missing the air cleaner cover. I need help locating either the air cleaner cover or simply getting the air cleaner insert. Also if possible the owners manual. Any help would be much appreciated.

For the round 8 inch round cover, the replicas from "Wyatt Gatling" that you find on ebay and such look pretty good, but the metal is a lot thinner than original. It's not bad for an every day runner. It does not have the cut away for the carb, but will still fit my fxd without modification.

If you want new, the next option is finding new old stock, or having a dent free original re-chromed. (original is part number 29165-89)

As far as the insert, (29580-99) is almost unobtanium, however this site (link below) has them, but you gotta pay to play. The owner is a nice guy, and his communication and service is excellent. But the price of the insert might be a tough pill to swallow.

So if you want new and original, your looking at about 75 bucks to re-chrome an 8 inch cover and 150 for the insert. So about 250-300 bucks. Which would probably be what it would cost to buy from the MoCo if they had them.

Another option is you can just get a clean used set up from say ebay for less, but need to watch on a regular basis and eventually something for the FXR2 might come up. Same thing for the filter housing/backing. Ebay is probably your best bet if you need that also.

The insert is soft aluminum and is scratched and dented easily, so that will be you biggest challenge.

That is not a bad price for a very rare part. You could wait to find one on the Bay, but if you and one other guy see it at the same time, the bidding might bring the price up higher. Sometimes it is just easier to pony up some coin and get what you need.

You might be able to get a copy of the owners manual at

Down loaded one for the 93 I just bought.

I know some people are about originality but if I was to spend that kind of money on a cover and a decal, I'd get a complete S&S E and put it on there... JMHO....

Being "Into" Originality... I don't get excited about a Carb made for a Panhead.. Yea I run One here and there... But there are a Multitude of Better Options.. But... I do Not prefer the Mikuni either.. a bit too "japanese" for my taste.. The Qwiksilver II, is My Choice if Not using a CV..

Never run a Qwiksilver , I've run Mikuni, keihin cv and butterfly, s&s, tilloton, bendix, zenith and had good luck with all of them when you work on them correctly, but Ill have to check out Qwiksilver , made by edelbrock right? I've had good luck with edelbrock on cars

Like You... I have run a Multitude of Carbs, For a multitude of reasons..Luckily, being in a Shop [Indy] I got to see about Everything, even If I didn't own them... What I use on my own stuff...basically depends most on Intended Use, and concerns for originality, which, ofttimes I do Care about.
I was Drawn to the Qwiksilver after the Lectron experience... Long Ago. Yes Edelbrock, But, this is Important, Not the one with the Accelerator pump, I detest that one.. The Qwiksilver II is what I like.. Easy to tune [gotta have the Correct needle] and Basically the same Air Filter as the Pre Shorty S&S. Another carb that I have grown Fond of is the original [not counting Lectron] Screamin Eagle Butterfly, or as I use them, the Andrews Flowmaster. They are different, and need to be tuned Differently but Highly functional...once tuned for a Specific application.. I guess Like Anything else Huh?
Have some Fun!!!
