Default Thunderheaders

Just how loud are Thunderheader Slip Ons, love the sound of Thunderheaders but seems most riders get rid of them after some riding time due to rattled gray matter. Been talking to Rizzo and also eyeballing Supertrapps mufflers with internal discs he is running. Thunderheaders are not able to be repacked but can be adusted by bending deflector fins, Supertrapps are fully rebuildable and easily adjusted, does the sound of a Supertrapp in the same ballpark as a Thunderheader.

ThunderHeaders are loud. There's no way around that. Especially at higher rpms. Most high performance exhaust systems are loud. My wife's Evo has ThunderHeaders and my Twin Cam has a Vance and Hines Pro Pipe. She won't ride along side me or even too close behind simply because of the noise. The tunable types like the SuperTrap may be your best bet if noise bothers you.

Thanks, I have 2 older Propipes and a 3" baffle in a 2-1 Dragula currently on the big cubed White Bike, used to rumble. Building a little more classic bike and just seems owners get tired of the extremely loud Thunderheader, just trying to not waste $600 for mufflers, don't know of anyone in my area to listen to one.

How does the Thunderheader mufflers loudness compare to a Propipe, the Propipe has more of a snarl in a good way.

To me, the ThunderHeaders have a sharper "raap" on decel from high rpms. The ProPipe has a lower tone. It's like the ThunderHeaders are what you'd hear on the drag strip.

I have to say I like loud pipes and no question and the TH is loud but it's a higher tone than most pipes... More of a cracking sound. Not sure about the Slip-ons though.. As for the Supertrapp, I used to run 32 disc's with a closed end and my wife said it was too quiet. So removed the end cap and went with the 1 3/4" open end. I though it sounded nice, still mellow when you wanted it and loud when you cracked it open.. Since I went to no disc's and no end cap and I have to say not quite as loud as a FatCat but more like a Kirker... Love it.. And you know how compression changes the tone... Wish I could post a sound bite but you know how that goes.. It's nothing close to the real world.. Not trying to cloud your decision but I remember that I believe Supertrapp put out a basic 2-1 in black that resembled the older Kerkers... For the life of me I can't remember the name.. But they had a nice HotRod tone.. Any one remember ? it was only a year ago..

Found it...
This is with the 89"er, the 96"er will be home soon...
In all Honesty I believe that the design of the collector really determines the level of performance and aids in sound.. This is why I like Supertrapp, D&D and the Thunderheader..
I just thought of one other thing as well, If you look up forum member target64 (Todd) I believe that was his forum name he had a 107 build with a thunderheader and I got to tell you that was a nastiest sounding thing I ever heard...

I had a friend that had the same V&H ProPipe on his bike but he removed the end on his. After riding through some twisty's with him behind me I asked him if he was dragging in the corners. He said no that's the sound it makes when I let off!

I have run D@D and a Thunder Header. Had a number of folks riding behind me back off abit cause of the loud. I'm talking 60-80 mph.
I have to admit I liked them.
My TC has true duals with Rhineharts but when I get around to it because of a friends bike.
A Supertrap is the near future. His is a little more mellow. Least to me anyhow.

My 1995 RK has a Thunderheader on it. On it when I bought it. I have to wear my custom made earplugs from work when I ride it.

The Thunderheader is probably the loudest pipe you can get, a great performance pipe but, LOUD!
I have always liked the Supertrapp IDS mufflers, I have had them on my FXRT for around 20 years. That said, I recently put them on my 05 Road Glide 103 and the build quality is no longer there. After about 2000 miles the closed end cap destroyed itself, all three bolts pulled through and the cap wedged itself against the outlet cone. When I tried to repair it, the disc nuts broke out of the baffles. (Probably torqued and anti seize applied)
I’m thinking Vance and Hines or S&S would be a better choice.
