Default Oil Slinger Missing

Hey guys. Please see pics.

I’m starting to think I bought a real Frankenstein. FLHTC ‘91 with a 2005 built S&S V96 so far so good. Doing my own Mx now...found trans serial number no match for VIN. Ok, but pulled the clutch cable housing...no oil slinger. Looks like just the two thrust washers and throw out

bearing.

1. Should I install a new throw out bearing assembly WITH oil slinger?

2. How would I go about nailing down the year of this trans? Would HD help at all? All I have is what looks like a six or seven number serial number.

Would appreciate some sage advice

As long as you're in there, yes.

Can't hurt to ask your dealer if they can look it up, while you're down there buying the new bearing/slinger.

I don't remember the exact year they went to the slinger...something like '92 or '93 or something. I know my '90 didn't have one from the factory. (I went to the slinger type when my OEM bearing stuffed.)

My guess (and it's just a guess) based on the "dot matrix" style number there is that that trans is new enough that it had the slinger type from the factory, and someone replaced it along the way.

Some of them have oil slingers and some don't, not a big deal, the transmission gears move the oil plenty, but Id personally would rather have one than not

Not sure how to help. It should drop right in. Something else must be going on, but without pics or a fuller description, hard to say what.

Always check the ball/ramp mechanism before reinstalling the clutch cable cover.

Then you will pop off the derby cover and do the clutch adjustment procedure.

Other than that, 🫤?
