Default Tappet question

I have an S&S , 89 stroker kit in my 1985 evo, with oem heads and pistons and what I was told was a mild cam. I am installing S&S tappets and would like to know if i need to use the HL2T seals. I have a set of tappets with the HL2T seals, but could remove them if necessary. As I have no experience with this, your input is appreciated.

I think you only would need this if you had aftermarket (read performance) valve springs....hl2t kits prevent the lifters collapsing under the strength of tight springs....if you have a mild cam you should have stock or similar to stock springs....of course if the kit is cheap...it won't hurt anything.

Thanks for your reply. Good to know. If it won't hurt anything I will install them with the seals as have them anyway.

Just watch your preload... .060" max.... One other thing to note is that most likely when the engine is warm you will get lifter/rocker noise... They'll sound a little loose...

Sound loose due to leaving the seals in? If it will make things a bit quieter I have no prob removing the seals before install.

That are not seals, they are .100" spacers that go under the plunger in the lifter body.. And as said they are use to help keep the lifter from collapsing under high spring pressures..

1 flat off the bottom on a cold engine works fine, lifters with limiters don't always, but can take longer to prime because of the limited plunger movement, they're usually installed dry for ease of adjustment, one trick is to use a little light oil in the lifter (usually while installing the limiters) so it won't be like trying to prime a dry water pump

Thanks for the information, sounds like in my application removing the spacers would probably be best. Sure appreciate the help.
