Has anyone tried cutting the y pipe behind the rear jug and weld it closed,to make a 2 into 1 exhaust out the stock head pipe with an after market muffler.thanks.
Yes, it's been done. Saw a guy with an 86 FLHT here in town once and he had done exactly that, a home brew "true dual" setup. He kept the original mufflers.

i dont think everyone understands.i want a 2 into 1,not true duals.i want to take the left side off completely and use the right side only.thanks.
I was thinking the guys missed your point as well.
I'm not at all sure as to the effect it would have.
I have seen and heard of it being done to get the tru dual set up but never to create a 2-1.
The idea of the 2-1 is to clear out the exhaust gases well. Which improves engine performance.
It's hard for me to see how this would improve much of anything.
The shape of it would not be anything I have seen or installed what few 2-1's I have worked with. Mainly my own.

Yes we did, In just a opinion only, the stock system will work better then two 1 3/4" pipes going into a 1 3/4" pipe into a 1 3/4" inlet on a restrictive muffler. 2-1's have a 2 1/2" inlet on a muffler with large baffles to clear spent exhaust gases. I'm into building home brew stuff so if you can make it work go for it, your machine.
No reason it wouldn't work, will it improve your engine breathing would need to be proven. But likely not important, have at it. You could probably get a take off set of headers from the Bay and experiment on a second set, if it doesn't work out you can put the stockers back on. Post pics if you do it, thanks and good luck.
