Ridden a few FXR's over the years.
Even a Shovelhead pwr'd one (way back when)
They're light, agile. Decent brakes (for the day)
Very VERY smooth. Very upright seating posn.
Excellent Police Bikes too.
I don't care for the tricycle mid controls.
Still, one of the best Harley's ever made.
The Softail is a more laid back cruiser.
Probably out sold FXR's 100 to one in
the late 80's, early 90's
Just because of the looks
Apples n' oranges.
I'll say this though. I'd rather find a decent 90's FXR for say $6 or 7K
and put $20K + in it (S&S Mtr etc) than ANY of the new Softail
Slim's, Sport Glides, etc.
No computer !! No EFI !!!
