Default Curvemaker Issue

Anyone use the VRUSB2000i ignition programming cable lately?

The reason I ask is I wanted to program a new advance curve in my Ultima ignition (like I have successfully done many times in the past), and I am getting "ignition not found".

Never had a problem in the past, and I know the guy that made the usb programming cables no longer makes them. His website says "discontinued". I don't know if it's because not much interest or if he lost "permission" to sell them and or the cables are now "obsolete/non functional" or whatever.

I sent him an email asking, and waiting for a reply, but wondered if anyone else encountered this problem before I go down the rabbit hole of trying to problem solve.

I am not a computer guy so it will be a long process, but, if anyone else has a similar issue, I will stop snooping and go with a plan B.

PC on > cable connected > Ign on > Start Curvemaker program - in that order. If it doesn't connect, possible driver issue.

PMs sent. Hope that helps.

Thanks t150vej, been there done that. Going to keep "guessing" at what the conflict or issue is. Thanks

Running out of things to try.

The computer reads the usb cable, and shows it's there. But keep getting "ignition not found".

Just a stab in the dark. I don't have that system or know anything about them but does the red bold text mean just the ignition or both ignition and run switches both on?

Both. Kill switch powers both the coil and the start button. Module gets power from coil terminal.

I just programmed my Dynatek 2K. I had bought the Dynatek cable on ebay, although it took a month to get here. Anyway, I was programming it in my office with a laptop, and I hooked the ignition up to a 12v battery, like the ignition switch would be when on. It gave me that "ignition not found" thing. When I disconnected the +12V, suddenly it found the ignition and I could program away. That is, it (the module) was getting power from the USB port via the Dynatek programmer USB box. Hook the +12V back up and no ignition found again.

Yeah, you have the "official" serial cable. (?) YD and I are using the less expensive USB cable which is no longer available. They only have 3 wires and require power (and ground) from an external source, i.e. frame ground and battery voltage.

Ha! I just thought of that very thing a couple minutes ago! Great minds think alike. I am not sure if the run switch was on or not. Will try again tomorrow, bike is put away for the night. Thank you!

YD, are you using the right communication port. Make sure that what is set in Curve maker software matches the port on your computer...

Curve loaded!

Modified the t150vej procedure slightly for future reference:

PC on > cable connected > Ignition ON (with lights) and RUN switch ON > Start Curvemaker program!

I feel happy and stupid, so call me stupid happy or happy stupid. Glad it was simple, SO THANKS EVERYONE!

Just a few notes for anyone else: I did disconnect the red power wire to the wego unit, but did not need to disconnect the brown tach wire that the wego unit uses to pick up the tach signal for data storage. I will try again with the curvemaker program and the wego unit connected to see if that will create any problems with data transfer.

Also, I was running a led vacuum advance mode indicator light, but I removed that when trouble shooting earlier today. I read a post on xl forums that the "simple" LED indicator (some people use) interfered with the data transfer process, so I removed mine. However, my LED circuit is different in that it is isolated via a separate transistor with the gate of the transistor triggered by the VOES and using a separate power source and ground, so it should work without interrupting the data transfer, and will try again after I reconnect the LED indicator this weekend.
