Wow, and yuck. Be sure to click on this link at the bottom of the page:

http://www.nightrider.com/biketech/h...e_upgrades.htm

That's spooky. Engines are so hot the oil breaks down and can score cylinder walls. No mention of whether synthetics might help there.

Mention of crap crankshaft bearings and available upgrade. (110 cvo has that, but the 110 cvo upgrade kit doesn't include that - separate purchase they say.)

Mention of how touring bikes with fairings run hotter due to restricted airflow, so maybe it's not just reflected noise??

Lots more "good?" info - all about crap design. Good info about nuking the warranty and how to avoid that.

Moco is in deep ****, imho.

You and me both. The Twin Cam is the new shovel(trouble)head.....
Only the shovel's trouble was AMF insisted on rushing production, which caused serious quality control issues, whereas the Twin Cam
problems are designed in.

During testing in controlled conditions with data logging instrumentation attached to the engine, the overheating engine behavior was captured. The OEM engine will go into this "high heat" mode in about 10 minutes of idling at 78 degree ambient temperatures in shady conditions. Exhaust pipe temperature will get as high as 750F degrees about 6" down from the cylinder heads as measured by a thermocouple.
750 degrees is scary high heat! And that was only 10 minutes in the shade! Imagine getting stuck in a traffic jam for up to 30 minutes?!

I opt to keep my EVO and change the oil more often when I ride in high temp conditions.
