Try to isolate the tick with a screwdriver, handle to your head, tip to the pushrod cover. Easy enough to figure out which one is tapping, if it is a push rod.
Better yet, why not get a tool that's actually made for that?
Waiting on a tool...I had an oil gallery tool, but can't seem to find it anywhere. Probably find after I get the new one....lol
We're all aware of the "noise" she's makin. Waitin on the tool and will go from there. After the gallery inspection and screen cleaning, I'll pull the tubes and see if I have an out of adjustment pushrod, then go from there. Since most my work is inside the house now, I have some time in the mornings to play a little with her.
Today she got new mirrors and grips. The REALLY cheap ones I got were trash. The rubber tore out on the grips and the left mirror wouldn't stay where you put it anymore, went short stem this time. Toll was supposed to be here today.

The house is on the market...finally!! We decided to put our junk in a storage garage till spring, I'm not driving a loaded 20 foot enclosed trailer behind a 2wd dually during snow season...lol. Either way the storage yard doesn't care if I work on anything while my stuff is in storage. So if she needs to get pulled down again, it's not a problem.
On to the latest. For the past 2 days, I've been getting her ready to move, so I got everything mounted to make it easier if the house sells fast. I can work on her in the storage garage. Bought Ebay, cheap Chinese quick detach stuff, it aint as nice as the moco stuff...but if your handy you can make it work. Took me all frickin day to adapt and modify it to fit the 87...
All the oil is drained and tomorrow I'm going to redo the pushrod adjustments hoping that I didn't get them adjusted correctly the first go around..... She's all cleaned up and I'm prayin that's the problem...wish me luck.
Yesterday was windy as all get up, so I didn't open her up. Nice weather today so Here's what I found; front exhaust was loose as hell, like it never got adjusted, but the lock nut was tight, so I have no frikin idea what happened. I readjusted all of them, intakes were fine, rear exhaust was a tiny bit loose, but it shouldn't have mattered. I'm positive the noise was the front exhaust. She's all back together, oiled up, and oil primed.
Now I just waitin for the battery to get full again. If it aint full...it doesn't spin fast enough to start her. Nervous as hell right now...will report back after the fire up.
Okay, I will admit that sometimes I'm an idiot.........lol.
Tried to get her to start and ..............nothin!! DANG-IT Well you actually have to put the plug wires ON the spark plugs if you want any chance for it to start....
Back on the charger, maybe tonight, if not tomorrow for sure.
And quiet!! Okay for an Evo with a 96" stroker, she's quiet......lol. I'll tell ya she was a cranky bitch; I think that 3-year-old battery needs to be replaced. I had to hook jumper cables to the truck to get her to spin long enough to start. Could be just the new engine, we'll see. The rattle you hear is the air cleaner touching the tank, I need to readjust how the AC sits, I think it's leaning up and not on straight.
Yeah I caught that rattle, glad it's only the air cleaner... Don't let it idle too long It's not good.. You basically want to get it out and load the motor a little bit and then back off to get that combustion to push the rings into the cylinders to help seal it better.. Never steady RPM, it It's not good for seating the rings.. Don't need to take it over 3500 rpm either for the first 100 miles..
Congrats.....👍

Was finishing the "heat cycles" that S&S recomends in the instructions. They say 5, before you load it.
Question? When it warms up to operating temp I get pushrod tick. I did the 24 Flats initial, do I bump 1 flat at a time to quiet it down?
