S&S 585 is a little softer cam than Woods but still would target .140" like Hotrod mentioned, your covering the "grow" of the cylinders from heat, lifters will come back to roughly .100". Steep lobe cams do not like slack in those lifters

It's weird, normal noise till it's good and hot. Starts gettin noisy after the oil gets around 180+. Nowhere near as loud as the last one, but it sounds like the same issue...pushrods out of adjustment.
windy as hell again today so I won't open her up, maybe tomorrow.
180° is really great for oil temperature... It's expansion that's making the valve train noisy like bagger said... You need to set the pushrods a little deeper..

That's the plan....for tomorrow, if the wind stops.
Had the time and the weather cooperated with no wind today. Readjusted to 27 flats this morning and warmed her up, and went on a small 15 mile putt around the neighborhoods. Varying rpm and accel and decel. I wish I could just go for a ride, but she's got no tags yet. Will do another run this evening. I think she's "daily driver" material, but time will tell as she breaks in. 😁😁😁😁 happy camper right now.
Now all I have to do is get the Ranger ready for it to be able to transport her in the bed behind the motorhome.
The initial 50 mile breakin is done. I say this thread is over...
It took me 1 year and 10 months to get her back on the road. Got interrupted by "life" a bunch of times, but I believe that she is done. Gunna go over her with a fine-tooth comb before I go on another ride. Make sure everything it torqued and locktite most every nut and bolt that I touch. Make an appointment with the CHP for a V.I.N. inspection and verification. Send all the paperwork and cash to my son in Oregon to get her tags and a new plate Then ride the hell out of her!!
I know it took a long time and I'm sure you were anxious to get her back on the road but you did a really good job there Cowboy. It sounds beautiful... Excellent...
