Default Evo softail

Recently bought an 88 softail i thought it was running too rich and flooding itself while I was riding it sometimes it would run fine for an hour then I’d shut it off and start it again and it would sputter and just randomly die out after a few big pops out of the exhaust while riding down the road when it does run it idles fine it’s just while Im riding the issues start it has an s&s super E carb I’ve tried to jet it up and jet it down both primary and intermediate jets it doesn’t really change anything now it just wants to fire up and die immediately over and over im starting to wonder if it could be a weak coil or timing issue any help would be greatly appreciated

Check the intake for leaks? Idle mixture screw? Do you mess with the carb?

Messed with idle mixture and got it to idle good Then I’ll take off on it and about a block down the road it will start to sputter then backfire and die I don’t know if it’s too rich or a timing issue like I said a few times it’s ran fine for a 30 minute ride then take it home and shut it off and same thing happens now it wants to just die immediately after starting

Check the petcock screen for debris. Also, the next time you're riding the bike and it stumbles, loosen the gas cap to verify that the tank is venting to the atmosphere.

An engine that dies after sputtering can indicate water in the gas or a blocked gas line. Can also be caused by a fault in the ignition system.

I’ve checked most of the other issues I’m confident it’s not a lack of fuel causing it rather too much fuel or and ignition issue
