Default Oil Pump Recommendation

Hi,

I need an oil pump recommendation for a 91 bottom breather. Im getting ready to start the motor rebuild and have been looking at oil pumps.

motor info:
80”
SE heads, followed and polished.
wiesco 10:5:1 pistons
Andrews EV27

Nothing crazy but figured if the stock 32 year pump was coming off it would be replaced. I’ve seen TP, S&S, Drag and Sifton.
TP seems to be more of a race/ high performance option. Sifton has good reviews but I think it’s an import.

What’s the best option for a mild 80” EVO?

S&S non chrome stock replacement unit, Drag, Sifton and the other popular names are all import.

If the pump body isn't scored in the stock one I'd clean it up with an R&R kit and new keys and reuse it.

S&S oil pumps are the best, (even though I don't like their carbs)
sifton is now made in Chiwan by Taiwan Ted & V-Twin so avoid them like the plague, all $hi7,
for the price differance & for peace of mind, and for a quality heart for your motor it has to be S&S,...
if ya Grandma needed a new heart, you wouldnt get the cheapest one made in China from recycled metals of dubious type & quality,

While I have ready access to S&S ... I am Not at all opposed to the Ultima Oil Pump...quality VS price...it seems entirely Acceptable... But...I have Not heard all the Bad either...
Look carefully at the Check Ball/Seat of the S&S...I did get a Bad (very bad) one...

Unless you have really deep pockets I'd just inspect and rebuild the one you have.

Unless there is some problem with your existing pump there is no reason to replace it.

it’s just old and crusty. Everything else is being replaced so why not.

Of course it`s your money, but for over 500 bucks for a real (not counterfeit) S&S pump, I wouldn`t be quick to condemn an OEM pump.

The pump in my `89 Softail has been working fine for over 140,000 miles without a problem.
