Doing one of the major servicings on my 98 FXSTC and decided to try a different set of plugs. After a fair bit of research, I settled on NGK Iridium spark plugs to replace the base version NGK plugs. Boy-oh-boy what a difference a set of plugs makes. She starts easier, idles nicer and pulls harder than a you-know-what! If your plugs are due for a change, then I would suggest doing some research and opting for a more performance-oriented plug. Like I said, the NGK Iridium plugs worked a treat for me and it was the best "bang for buck" for me so far. Highly recommended although no doubt other manufacterers sell a similar product. There are plenty of sites on the web that can give you the cross-reference so you get the correct plug for your bike.
I replaced my plugs with Screaming Eagle plugs, and I too noticed an immediate improvement.Esp on starts and I actually gained an extra couple of mpg. if I hadn't experienced it myself, I would never have believed it.
Probably the cheapest, and most noticeable performance mod Ive done in the last 10 years!
I have to check it out, maybe my Champions are not as good as I thought,M
Nah, them Champions are great. I've been running the RN12YC forever. I've tried some of the others but these always seemed to be the best.
My Evo has over111k miles on it, the Champions are one of the things I never even think about anymore.
thats what mine came with, the champions, replaced them with champions. my bake has always started right up and ran perfect. but i do know better plugs can make a difference, i may try those plugs next time, after all i only have to buy two, not eight.
I have used Screamin Eagles, NGKs as well as others, but still like the Champ RN12YC. As far as noticing a difference. Just putting in new ones makes a difference no matter what brand they are. Can't see the extra money for the screamin eagles. Champions are plentiful and reasonably priced so I will stick to them.
I am contemplating trying them out after reading this thread. I tried the splitfire plugs and noticed a great improvement until I fouled them out. Then I went with the ones I had lying on the shelf in the garage.
When my rings were bad the Screaming Eagle made a big, temporary improvement; but once the top end was done I just ran the cheap Autolite 4265 plugs the indy shop recommended. They are cheap and Advance Auto has them hanging 2 in a pack, out where I can easily grab a pair whenever I am in for wax or cleaners.
