Default Front Brake Switch

Guys, I installed a new front brake switch on a '90 Heritage.. I'm having trouble keeping the metal push rod in contact with the plastic pin (switch). After about 5 or 6 pulls on the front brake lever the metal push rod loses contact with the pin and the brake light stays on. The pin is item #3 below and a metal push rod is part #30 at the bottom. Any tips? It seems the metal push rod moves / rotates too easily.

Happens all the time, just bend the tab on the pushrod until it always works properly....did that last month on my Shovel.

I respectfully disagree. I never bend anything on an Evo switch.

Loosen the switch housing and move it toward the brake housing. You have to play with it a bit to get it like you want. Too close and it won't come on, too far away, stays on. Only have to slide the housing/throttle a tiny bit to make a big difference in when light comes on.

I installed a pressure switch and that cured the problem.

OP was talking about the front brake switch which is mechanically operated, not the rear brake.

Yes, I know. I installed a hydraulic pressure switch on the front fluid reservoir using a T fitting and wired it to the rear brake wiring harness.

Oh, OK. I thought maybe you had a late model that was made that way.

What year and model?

I don't know if the later models come that way. Mine is a 1989 FXR Super glide.

That tab #30 almost always needs tweaking when aftermarket stuff gets used. Don't kid yourself.

Yiu don't bend the switch, you bend the tab on the brake lever, that is how you adjust them.
