Default Which carb needle?

Folks I have a choice between a three lobed carb needle or a four lobe while rebuilding a 1990 CV. Which one is best to use?

I agree with eighteight. I put one of those tapered needles in my bike and gained 10hp on the dyno.

This is the picture of the main needle. I actually have this. No i'm talking about the needle that the float operates. Some have three lobes and some have four. The needle that shuts off the float of gas from the bowl as the float goes up and down.

I use the three lobe float needle. Four should be fine as well.

Use the OEM 4 wing float valve.

The 3 wing sometimes gets cocked and does not fully close off the fuel.

In This XLForum Thread there is a discussion of the float bowl overflowing and the possibility that it is caused by aftermarket float valves that are not of the proper design.10)

I have had a couple of instances where I didn't shut off the petcock and came back later to find gas on the floor.

I think I remember something about how old the cv carb is, is what float needle to use, the older cv carbs had round style floats and newer is a square style and I think one used the three and the other the four
