Default Evo Fatboy seat ‘99

Hi Guys
Seat question
Seat in photo on the right has the bracket - (the other doesn't have it). So far as i am aware the PO never used the pillion seat, in fact he lost it.

I have bought a pair -front rear - as the riders seemed in better condition that the one I had.

Is the Bracket a HD supplied item for solo seat usage back in 1999? Do I need to keep it on when I couple the rider and passenger seat together?

Photo 2 is the passenger seat for info

The microfiche doesn't show either.
Appreciated

Sorry buddy -
The seat on the right has a different bracket and i don't understand why - unless it is for use when the seat is used solo only.
Thanks

Not sure what that brackets for except for maybe additional support? That is where the relay boxe is maybe it's there to protect it? I don't know but it looks like it rests more on the crossmember of the frame for more support..
And maybe as @Racepres said the pillion seat attaches with the two screws and then the one rear screw on the fender.. That's the first I've seen of seats attaching that way.. I have been using Mustangs for ever and still do on my '98 but there is no rear bracketry on the primary seat or even anything on the pillion..
But it should still work..

Thanks for that -appreciated.
I have searched but can’t find any reference to that support-Im guessing it’s aftermarket - then as you say to give a bit more support. You are correct also that those lugs sit on the fender rails.
All the best

Honestly I don't see the purpose of it because of your two ear side mounts that bolt to the frame.. I don't know..
If you're going to use a pillion I would probably get rid of it , or is it possible that it's supposed to help support the front of the pillion so it doesn't ride as tight down on the fender... Mark it up and see how the pillion sits, it just might keep the pillion up off the fender preserve in the look of the fender..

Here is what I know, and what I "suspect", from looking at my stock '98 FB (hopefully, not stating the obvious): The front seat mounts solidly (Solo) by the front tab and two side bolts (and, mine doesn't have that extra bracket like in the pic on the right). If you want to add the passenger seat, it attaches to the two bolts (mine has bolts where I see yours has screws) at the back of the front seat and the single fender bolt to the very rear of the bike. So far so good. Now the speculation part: If you want to add a driver backrest, the only way I can see to attach one is bolting it to the same bracket, on the rear part of the front seat (the two screws where the front of the REAR seat also attaches). My '98 doesn't come with holes in the fender to bolt down in that area like newer baggers so the only way I can see is to bolt the backrest to the seat itself. If ALSO running the rear seat (along with the backrest), I suspect you "sandwich" the backrest bracket between the front and rear attachment. As far as the "extra" bracket - it could be for different (bike) applications and just not needed for your '99 (?). Not sure if helpful at all but.... I have been considering how to attach a backrest on my '98 and without the pre-drilled holes in the fender (from the factory), my guess is it would bolt the the rear of the front seat.

When I got my '96 Heritage 8 years ago, the first time I took my wife for a ride, she said there was something wrong with the pillion seat, it seemed like it was "loose".

I pulled the seats off and found the front of the pillion seat wasn't attached to anything. The only thing that was holding it on was the screw through the tab in the rear of the pillion!!! WTF???

Here's a picture of what my driver seat looked like, with the bracket attached...

I noticed that the bracket "legs" were scratching the hell out of the top of the fender. So I cut those legs off, and attached the front of the pillion to the rear of the driver seat with the two screws. That fixed the "loose pillion" problem.

My wife no longer rides with me and I wanted a backrest, so I bought one. I removed the pillion and added a fender bib to cover the exposed fender. I like the looks, and my lower back loves the backrest.

al_ferfuson01 is correct in that my backrest bolted to the rear of the driver seat using the two holes.

Hi -What you have in pic 1 is he same as what I have, difference mine has rubber feet.
Clearly this was an aftermarket thing back then perhaps to give the solo seat a bit of lift -who knows.

Im please someone else has one - more so that you got over your issue.

All the best and thanks
