Here's the deal I bought a 95 heritage softail about a month ago, after putting about a 120 miles on it, it started missing very badly. The plugs were fouled out (Lots of black soot on electrode) I took the bike back to the shop to have it checked out. I got it back after 3-4 days and it seemed to be fine. now I have ridden around 30 miles since getting it back and it has started missing again, I pulled the plugs and found them to be fouled out again. I am fairly certian that the carb needs to be adjusted. Qusetion is I am not sure exactly how to adjust the carb this is my first Harley by the way. How should I go about adjusting the mixture needles and how do I know when I have them right? Thanks for any help Oh by the way the bike has vance & hines long shots on it and I dont know if the carb was ever re-jetted or anything. Thanks Lee
No not even using the enricher. couple of light blips on throttle hit starter and off she goes might have to hold just a little throttle until she smooths out and stays running.
I have the same problem on my 90 Heritage. At highway speeds its fine, but really loads up and fouls the plugs below 35 mph. I'm thinking that my problem is jets. How many miles on your bike and what carb do you have?
G Wood Todd, 11K on the bike and I guess it is a stock carb.
JBaker421, Soot is fairly dry doesnt feel oily to me seems to wipe off plugs fairly easy. No oily residue in pipes at all.
