Are you using the highest octane fuel available?&nbsp\\; if not, then that most likely is the problem.&nbsp\\; If you are already running high octane gas, then try running a can of Sea Foam through the fuel system over time at the rate of about one ounce&nbsp\\;added to the tank for each&nbsp\\;gallon of gas.&nbsp\\; You most likely have some carbon buildup in the cylinders that's causing this problem.
&nbsp\\;
Good luck,
&nbsp\\;
John&nbsp\\;

running preuim fuel,idle is set a 1000 RPM&nbsp\\; mechanic said retard the timing a few knotches and see if that works.not sure which way moving the timing plate retards the timing and which way advances timing?

My advice on the timing is that it be checked and adjusted according to the specs/proceedures in the manual.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\; I am extremely doubtful that this is a timing issue, but I suppose that if the timing were off enough to cause the engine to grossly overheat, it could be the cause.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\; Does it ping and knock under heavy acceleration?&nbsp\\; When you check the plugs, are they dry &amp\\; sooty, wet &amp\\; oily, grey, brown, black&nbsp\\;etc?&nbsp\\; Are you sure that they're the correct plugs for the engine?&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;&nbsp\\;\\\\\ \;
&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;
Good luck,
&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;
John.

+1 Or throttle cable sticky or out of adjustment leaving the idle high.

Agree with JPOOCH00, make sure the timing is factory set. Run on such as this is usually caused by pockets of intense heat in the engine continuing to ignite the fuel without a spark. Setup timing, spark gap and idle settings as per factory. start from there.
