I've got a 93 FXSTS that I purchased used a couple of years ago. It's got the original springer shock and original springs. Have any of you springer owners replaced the springs and/or the damping shock?
Since the bike is 15 years old, I'm wondering if they could be worn out. Having never ridden it brand new, I don't really have anything to compare the "feel" of the front end to, so I don't know if those components are worn out or not.
I've been thinking about replacing the front shock with a Progressive Suspension shock, but I haven't been able to find anyone that sells a replacement spring kit. Anyone know where to find one?
Since the shock is about $150 and I'm assuming replacing all the springs is at least that much, would this be worth doing? Or would it not be a noticeable difference, and I should just ride it as-is?
I also have a 1993 Springer and it is on the original damper and springs. To me, it rides fine, however, I was used to a rigid framed bobber with leaky forks.
I have a 96 Springer. just had the Springer serviced last summer she rides like a caddy. But then I'm used to it so who knows how she would ride after new springs and damper.
I will say the new neck bearings made a big difference.
You can get the springs through HD or someone like V-Twin. I would think that a replacement shock through someone like Progressive would be nice. My springer doesn't run a shock so I can't say first hand.
