Default Narrow belt

Has anyone put a narrow '00 and up belt on their bike, to afford room for a wider tire? I'm considering putting a belt on when I tear mine down this winter to replace the primary seal. If I do, I'm assuming I'll just need to change the final drive pulley to a '00up model. Will it just bolt up? Any problems to take into consideration? My bike is a '94 WG, I havent seen a wide tire kit, but it looks like this is all I would need. Anyone done it?
Thanks,

I changed my 98 WG swingarm to a 02 model. bolt on with no problems. A huge help was going to my dealer and looking at the parts manual for both years, comparing #'s.
Wider tire is on my list to do sometime, as well, so keep updating, would ya.

Just buy yourself the narrow belt and take your rear pully to a competent machine shop. The inner flange is just swaged in about ten spots so it can be removed easily. Then have the shop machine the pulley to a narrower profile to match the belt, leaving the same lip so you can re-swage the inner lip back on. Should take under an hour to do it. We've done several like this with no problems. Just bring the stock belt in so that he can measure it and the pulley, so that he can give the narrow belt the same clearance. Hope this helps.

How much wider is the '02 swingarm? The issue I'm noticing is the belt nearly touching the 140 tire I've got on it now. In order to step up to the 150 I'd like next time, I'll need to do something with the belt. I'm not sure, but I'm having a hard time understanding how the swingarm would change that. Definitly not contradicting you, I just dont know...

I'm liking that idea... I'll have to look into it. Should be cheaper than getting another pulley too.. Also, I shouldnt have to do anything with the front sproket, right?
Thanks,

Correct the front sprocket remains untouched.

The 02-05 rear swingarm is identical to the 98 (and earlier) except for the rear brake mount. Width is the same.
Easy swap, but other ways to upgrade the rear brake, I suppose. Got mine on ebay for $40, so cheap and easy.
The swingarm, not me....

I have to wonder if I did this and took it down to a 1" belt, what size rear wheel and tire could I run?

also, anyone know the inner width of the 02 rear fender? I'll measure my 98 and post. Could be too narrow for a 160.
