Default replacement engine

i ahve a 1990 fxstc with semi stock motor. which motor, S&S or ulbruto, would be a direct replacement, i want to be able to use my bdl 3" open primary and stock tranny, plus my vance & hines longshots without doing any modifacations. i dont want to get an engine and find out the pipes wont hookup right or anything else. im thinking about a small S&S, say 95" or smaller.

I fitted an S&S V107T in my 1990 FLHS, with the original primary. I am sure you can buy an Ultima complete with open belt and tranny as a complete bolt-in package.

S&S has an extensive catalogue on their website full of illustrations which might answer your questions on fitting one of their engines. Both S&S and Ultima are on the phone!

As for size of engine the Ultimas are cheaper to buy than S&S, so you can have a larger Ultima for similar money. You'll find most people here on HDF have new engines that have a '1' in front!

Any of the Ultima motors(127 or less) will be a direct boly-in. I would also reccomend upgrading your clutch if you haven't already and replacing your starter at the same time.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact me as we have installed a number of these engines.

i didnt even think about the starter. seems in the long run its better to just buy the whole package, motor, open primary, tranny and starter. i see the setups on ebay for under $5,000.00

I still have the original 1990 starter on my bike, but the S&S decompressor valves on my 107 are automatic. This engine actually starts more easily than my previous 89 inch stroker, which needed a super strong battery when newly built! I do have a Barnett clutch spring on the original clutch now, to deal with the extra torque of the S&S (102 ft.lbs!).

Ultima engines have manual decompressors and I gather that once run in a stronger starter will turn them over without using them. Hopefully an Ultima owner can chip in?!
