You all keep forgetting -- he has a 90 FLTC. The switch is mounted in the dash support housing on the front end, not on the tank, and is an integral part of the fork lock mechanism. It's a totally different animal from what most HDs use for ignition switches.

HD7585, your ignitoin switch is different, if it's the one in your sig pic. The kind you have is the same as from 1936 to 199x or so. The switch we have is only for FLT frames of our vintage.

Just on a whim, check your ignition module. I had the same problem and pulled my hair out trying to find it. It would not replicate at the shop. Finally took the side cover off and the aroma of fried electrical parts greeted me. replaced it with a known good module and no problems.

I just wanted to update you all on my problem. I believed the problem is fix. while riding at night I notice my headlights would get very bright. so brite I thought they would blow the bulb. then they would get dim and work thier way back to normal brite. I figure the regulator was throwing to much juice back to the battery. I notice in the wiring chart the regulator wire attaches to my main breaker. putting two and two together I figure when regulator was over charging it was triping the main breaker and shutting off my ign. I replace regulator and low and behold no problem. I log 400 miles on it today with no problem, so I feel pretty good that fix the problem.

Harley regulators seem to be a little weak. I replaced three of them on my 84 Sportster in 50,000 miles. In all fairness, that was an early 84 with a generator. I am guessing they have improved them since then.

Thanks for the update. That really helps when the next guy with the same problem finds this thread when they do a search.
