Here's one. After I tuned my wife's bike (CV carb) she now complains that the engine doesn't sputter before quiting.
IOW while crusing along if she runs out of gas on main the engine just quits without warning before she goes to reserve. My bike and hers also usually would sputter before quiting, now it just stops dead. I see her point because it happened to her the other day in the middle of a turn, (also does it just crusing) try getting a hairy as turn and hit your kill switch, also pulling out into traffic could be a concern.
I adjust the float and idle needle, but have since gone back and tried to correct the problem, I do all the tune-ups so this hasn't been a problem in the past.
Most people would be happy to see each cyl shut down at the same time. Indicates perfect fuel distribution between the two cyls . As for the other problem, that's fuel management, knowing in advance with how many clicks on the odometer before reserve should be on, not a fault of the bike.

I agree, it is a bad habit to wait for the bike to sputter, switch to reserve, then look for a gas station. She should go by the odometer. If she ever uses a FI bike (they don't have a reserve) she will be stranded.

Why adjust the float unless there was a problem before? Was there a problem before you tuned it? Like was already said, check mileage, fill up before it gets to point of reserve. Do you wait until the tires are flat before putting air in them? Do you wait until the engine runs like crap before changing the oil? Why run the engine until the tank is dry before filling up?
