Hey everyone I need some help with my front forks. I noticed oil coming out of the top of my fork. I'm assuming this is the oil seal leaking. Does this sound right to any of you? Is there any special tools need to change this? Any help would be great
Yeah, the fork seal is shot. The shop manual goes over R&R pretty well. I don't know what your particular front end is, but the manual should cover it. If you don't have a faring, it isn't too bad.

Ok that is what I thought it was. No fairing so I won't have to worry about that.
Thank Dr.
It's a Saturday job on the Sportster. Your bike should be about the same. Get a measuring cup and use the Wet refill amount. I use Genuine H.D. fork oil recommended for the type of bike when available, or PJ Fork oil when I can't get it. Search the forum, as I think there's a thread or two with some tips.
On my heritage there is an o ring around the nut that goes in the top of the fork where you pour the oil in. If that's the leak then it's a pretty easy fix.
Slider seal is as discussed above. Having the correct special tools makes life easy.
Good point, IronButt62. I assumed top of the slider. I've never had one leak at the top of the fork. Well, once when the fork tube unscrewed itself from the top cap on a FLH shovelhead and blew fork oil all over my left gas tank. In the OK panhandle, 50 miles from nowhere. But that is pretty obvious if you don't have covers all over it.

It's coming out of the top of the fork, not the slider. The slider is fine
While you have that cap off, go ahead and take the other one off too and change your fork oil - makes a BIG difference in the ride, especially if it's been over 2-3 years since it was changed (if ever)
