I have a 93 FLSTF that has an unusually noisy top end. I also noticed that when the engine is running the oil tank does not drain. I think it is time for an oil pump replacement. I do all of my own oil changes and maintenance and was thinking of doing the oil pump myself. Am I looking in the right direction with the oil pump or is there some other reason the oil isn't draining? Any advice?
What do you mean by the tank not draining? There is very little oil in the engine while it is running, the level of the oil will not be much different than when not running.
Do you see oil returning to the tank?
Does the engine have the original cam bearing?
How many miles are on the lifters?
