I'm with you on that. I have a 98 RK with some mild mods and I ride this bike 3 to 1 over my 09 RG. I like both bikes but the "old school" feel of the EVO keeps me coming back for more.

"the Evo's have something built in that the Twin Cam machines lack....character and soul".

I heard that same line from the Shovelhead guys when I bought my Evo 22 years ago (they probably heard it from the Panhead guys).

I didn`t agree with it then, and still don`t.

I'm on my second EVO so you know where I stand but I agree with Dan, each generation thinks theirs is the tops. Wait until Harley starts with water cooled, those Twinkies will become the next classics. They will sound better and be easier to maintain. Our EVOs will become the weekend projects where you tinker with them and then blow the dust off with a short ride every now and again.

If you doubt this then take a look around, how many Shovels are taking those long weekend rides these days, another 10-15 years and the EVOs are going to be where the Shovels are now. Maybe sooner because people don't fix things today like they did 25-30 years ago.

Very normal, the new bike probably doesn't need much. The RK is your new toy, needs a few things, gives you a since of accomplishment to see where it was, and where it is now, and just plain fun. Have fun, ride safe.

I have a Twinkie bagger that I bought new. I love the bagger for the simple reason that she is a bagger! She is much faster than my evo (I have some go fast parts in her) and hey,I bought her brand new!
I also have the Evo that you see below! (I know,I am lucky to have two!) If I were to do it over again,I think I would have bought a low mileage Evo bagger instead of spending WAY too much on a brand new bike. I love the soul of an Evo and rode this last summer on a long trip with her. She didn't miss a beat! I spend most of my time on my Evo as well, and am thinking about finding a good, low mileage Evo Road King (Bad back). Just my two cents....

On my 2nd EVO now, had a 92 FXRS before the road king, love em, also had 2 Twin cam softails and although nice bikes, as said they just werent the same. My first 2 Harleys were Shovels, great bike but spent more time working on them than riding them, I think the EVO is a nice middle ground, still has the patina of old but is new enough to be reliable.

I feel very good, and lucky to have found my bike last summer.

I love the simplicity involved, the "original" sound, and it's classic old school design.

I don't care that's it's not as fast, or shiny as a new bike. I do care that I understand it, and feel confident in making repairs while I've been renovating it.

She was all I could afford but has given me so much satisfaction ... I'm a very happy EVO owner!

Bully for you, sir.
There are many that feel exactly the same way...

Yeah, I remember saying the same crap. When I had my shovel and folks were waiting for EVO's from the Mofomoco.
