Default Amp location

Got an amp from my son for xmas and with the winter upgrades pretty much completed its time to pull the batwing to get to the alpine stereo back, I plan on mouting the pioneer amp either in the tour pack or the side saddle bag, any suggestions on mounting technique? Rubber mount etc?

How big is it? I had a 18 watt/channel Alpine amp mounted inside the faring, double sticky taped to the right wing of the inner part. Worked great for 10-15 years. Then I replaced the whole thing with a more modern unit which doesn't sound near as good.

I took the old Alpine head unit and the amp and put them in my Truck. Still working good after 30 years.

A bit off topic, but was wondering, i upgraded my stereo setup with the biketronics kit which included the splash guard. Turns out the splash guard was a totally useless piece of kit and didn't even look like it was gonna fit. What way do you guys overcome this problem? (Weather over here means that i can't do without one!!) Cheers.

Dr Hess I don't think it will fit under the wing its 10.7” x 7.9” x 2.2. I'm thinking more laying flat in the tour pack. Its this one http://pioneerelectronics.ca/POCFR/P...ucts/GM-D9500F

So, is that like a 1KW amp or something? That's big. You're going to have to put it in the tour pack or a saddle bag then. The one I had was a true 18W/channel, unlike the "40W/channel" head unit that replaced it, and it was about 8x4x2".

Gee, is this splash guard internal or external covering the controls? I had a HD factory external one on the Alpine, but I replaced it with a marine head unit that you can hit with a high pressure hose and not phase, so no external splash guard needed. Internally, a sheet of stiff plastic over the top of the unit is plenty. It actually stays pretty dry inside the fairing.

The Biketronics kit (or at least the one I got for my '89) comes with plastic for the unit inside the fairing, as you suggest. It also comes with another plastic piece that looks as if it would do the job of the plastic front cover on the stock unit, but in reality does not. It doesn't fit in such a way as to be usable. I actually do use it when washing the bike - I just tape it on temporarily to keep most of the water out.
