Default Dip Stick Help!

Did a search to see if I could come up with an answer, but everything is vague including the manuals.
I am trying to find out of this is the stock dipstick for my bike as well as if the Full and low lines/notches are accurate?
1991 FLHTC

Thanks!
Rob

Is the oil supposed to go to the very top notch? I just question it as it seems that that may fill it too much?

Exactly the same as my 1990 FLHTCU....keep the oil at 1/2 way between the 2 notch's when when hot....checked when bike level.

Don't use the notches as a full measurement. The bottom notch is the "add more" measurement. What you want to do is fill your tank with oil (more oil is more cooling capacity) but leave space in the top of the tank when the engine and oil are hot so that there is room to breathe. If you fill to the top, you will force oil out the breather tubes either onto your motor or into your carb and engine. Neither are what you want.

Mine's the same. And you check the oil with the bike on the Jiffy stand.

NO...you do not need the top notch. Change your oil and put the correct amount of oil in your bike. Park your bike where you always park it. Now check it cold on the jiffy stand...this is where it should be every time you check it before you ride it. More than likely the lower notch will be close to the full cold level. No need to check it hot or standing up or any of the other crazy crap that some people think you need to do...."it ain't the space shuttle"

Just to add, when I check cold it's 1/2 way between the marks. Hot, about 3/4 to the top mark.

Default Temp gauge dip stick

I recently purchased a used 04 Fatboy. It has the temp gauge dip stick. I checked the cold level this morning before a ride and it was barely touching the dip stock. Added about a half quart and the level was about 1/2 inch below the upper marker. About 2 hours after returning home, after about a 200 mile ride, I checked again and it was up to the bottom of the rubber seal of the dip stick. I was like what the? So I have siphoned off pretty much all I added and am waiting for it to cool completely overnight.

Will have to top up before tomorrow's ride. So from what I can gather here, check the level cold and on the jiffy stand and to confirm - the oil level should be half way between the lower and upper marks? Definitely don't want too much oil... any advice is welcome.
