HSR 42 Problem
1: Bad gas milage- like 20 or so
2: Fuel vapor coming out of the air cleaner (might be cam overlap, i want to time the bike)
3: Pops from the carb when its colder out
I have a 30 pilot, stock main, lowered the needle one notch and disengaged the accelerator pump to like 1/4 throttle engaged. The spark plugs were black at the base but the electrode seem to just be slighty sooty. The bike runs good, I just want better gas milage and limited vapor coming out of the aircleaner.
Any help with jetting and tuning would be appreciated. Thanks.
Set the accelerator rod to .080" clearance to start, if it is too far open it will cough when you give it throttle. Check your float level it should be 18MM. Set the idle mixture screw about two turns out to start. You should be getting about 40 MPG with the combo you have under normal riding conditions. However if you are pounding it then 20 MPG is about right. The foam elements can be restrictive and act like a choke if they do not have enough filter area. You can also go to the Mikuni web site and download their tuning guide. Hope this helps.
