G'day from Oz,
As the proud owner of an EFI (yuk); '06 dyna ??. I can state, without reservation, that I sure miss my FXR. Mine was a '91, but I admit I don't know the motor improvements for the late, ('95? on ), models. A friend said I should be looking for a later one as there were improvements to the cases (?), can you guys fill me in before I start looking. And were there any changes to the gearbox's on the later ones?. It will probably be a soft tail to customise a little.
Any help would be appreciated.

Just had a search through all the model listings for all the EVO models andthere were no listed difference in the cases. What they may have been refering to was that in 93 there werecases reported that were found to be porous, but these would have been long replaced by now.The cases should be the same from 93 to 98.I know I have owned a 94 and a 93 and they have been identical engine wise.
The thickness of the case changed around that time but I can't tell you when exactly. The case behind the front lifter blocks was made thinner about '92. In the years when the case was thinner you can't bore the spigot holes for big bore cylinders because the case will crack. Also around '90 there was a problem with the left side case bearing race insert loosening up.
Most of the major changes to the EVO motor were completed in 1994. In 1998 a third design diaphragm clutch- a two finger pull. If buying I would look for a '94 on up.
On the other hand, I have a '92 which is supposed to have the thin case, but at close to 130,000 miles it's not leaking yet. Not so lucky with the primary.....
