Default injectors or tuning problem

last year i bought a 1998 ultra with fuel injection took a trip pulling my trailer and the exhaust fumes nearly killed me, put in a ev27 cam that helped. well this weekend took another trip with the trailer and still fumey but tolerable, so i took out the red injectors and put in the stock ones now runs real bad. i dont know if its the stage 2 programming or if i really needed to have the bigger injectors, dont want to go to the dealer if i dont have to. stock injectors seems like it runs better without a load on the motor but when i ride its ok for a minute then acts like its out of gas and falls on its face. i a little confused, thinking about putting the red injectors back in and then maybe getting it dyno tuned but it runs real rich with the red ones and seems like its starving with the stock ones. oh and lots of popping with stock injectors. any advice would be appriciated. thanks

I have the exact same setup as yours......Stage 2, Red injectors, and the EV27 cam. My bike also has strong exhaust fumes, but only during deceleration and if there is any throttle involved. It also pops....

However, if I am not giving any throttle at all and the bike is decelerating.....I get no exhaust fumes. The popping also goes away as well.

I would check the exhaust for any cracks like the Y-pipe. Also, how many miles on the fuel filter?

Tuning problem, stock injectors is lean and red's are rich, downloaded cartrage map isn't adjustable. If you take it to a dyno tuner, they are going to install a Power Commander plus labor to tune your bike which should be a good deal if you get a good dyno guy. If you do some homework and understand how to install a PC3 on the bike and download maps from the Dynojet website and install them into the PC3, you can get it darn close with the stock injectors. If you choose to have it dyno tuned, install the red injectors as they will custom tune a map according to what is in the engine per AFR numbers in each cell of the map.

If you have patience, read directions thoroughly and a DIY guy, you can be guided through adjustments for decell popping, afr, timing and get CLOSE, if you want it PERFECT and struggling with the PC3, it is already on the bike and just needs a dyno tuner to take over but save some coin in the process. Let us know and if needed, I can explain what is going on with the PC3 alterations to clear up some of the EFI map garble.

the trailer was no help in ridding the fumes either, as the airflow is disrupted and swirls around back there instead of just being left behind.........
