Hey guys new here and have always had good luck on some other forums and from what I've ready this one seems the same. But I can't find an answer to my problem. I have a 1998 heritage with Screamin eagle top end. The problem I'm having is I have oil leaking out the top somewhere and I can't pinpoint it. It started last week but I've been commuting from Sacramento area to San Carlos so by the time I've ended the trip the left side has been too covered to see where it's coming from. Any ideas would help. I've s100ed it today and plan a small ride to run some errands but hoping that will give me a smaller area to try and track the leak. Any pointers will help thanks.
I'm looking at probably the same issue on my '97. Keep drying it off and checking until you narrow it down somewhat. Mine is leaking from the rockerbox on the back side of the rear cylinder. I had thought it possibly from the head gasket, but now pretty much settled on the lower rockerbox. Going to wait until the cold weather sets in before tackling it unless it gets worse.
I had this happen 2 times on my 95 FXDL. Stop and get a telescoping mirror it will help you locate the leak. Mine ended up being the rocker box gaskets the first time and a breather bolt the second. My guess is you have a blown rocker box gasket..very common!
Thank y'all. I'm on a short errand after cleaning it so I will be able to check better once I'm back home. That'll have out maybe 25 miles since cleaning. I got here and no sign of oil yet but maybe something once I get home. Thank y'all again. I knew y'all would be helpful.
Of course I did a short run to the mall and back20-25 miles round trip and of course no oil on engine once I got back home. Guess ill have to make a little longer run. Thanks again.
