i will check out ultima. what about the dual vs. single ignition? i get the concept of having the spark happen at hte proper itme but is it worth the tuning and finagling?

Just start it (when you get it fixed) and be prepared for it to make mess under the sump and on the floor....the oil level will sort itself out to some extent but re-check when motor is hot.

2nd hand H-D parts would be the best bang for your buck, people practically give away stock Sporty and Dyna modules. Pick ups and cups are available from people who do an uprgade to an aftermarket ign. You can buy the parts as and when you have the dollars.

Single fire won't make any difference you will notice.

an electronic sensor makes more sense, is more accurate and can produce a hotter spark.

It only took me a year to get fed up with the points on my EVO. Been running for the last 15 years on a Dyna point replacement electronic trigger. The single best thing I've done to the chopper. Easy timing, better spark and proven reliability, a good combination. Inexpensive and easy to install. And no I don't get kickbacks.

I finnaly got the points in and adjusted. put new and properly gapped spark plugs. she fired right up no problem!

At least so i thought...

last tuesday she started misfiring on me. and i have to leave her at my dads... long story short. Harley was kind enough to pick it up and take another look .. and it turns out that all of the information i had been told about not needing to worry about changing my jets after buying a different muffler for her was most likely wrong (got headaches from the thunderheader). she has been running rich, which i did notice but just didn't know why and i had forgotten about the muffler affecting that.

So thank you all for the info it has been indespensable in keeping me sane, and having some clue on what to do.
Hopefully the jets is what has been going wrong. i think it explains alot of the issues i've been experiencing.

I am still going to get that electronic ignition!

Hey guys!
It's been awhile and iv'e been swamped with school, anyway.

Took her in for rejetting and the carb got overtightned and so he had to jet it oversmall but she runs amazingly well and is completly reliable. He also put in my new ignition that you all recommended. it is the dual-fire crane...somthingor other... forget.

Last saturday got to put in a nice ride with some friends for about 300 miles. funfun.

But today the blinkers don't work and while it was running the ignition switch got smacked by my nephew and within seconds she lost all elictrical power (brand new switch!)

I'm thinking that the switch just got broken but i would like to do a bypass test on it but i don't remember how and my manual is at home, not where I am of course. Can someone just let me know how to do that? or even better a picture of the wiring diagram and what to cross connect to give her power?

Lightbulb

Hey, ended up getting a ride home for my manual and opened my bikes dash up. after fixing some bad wiring from other owners that bugged me i suddenly had power again (go figure). But the blinker system is still out. Not sure why, the blinkers themselves have power, running lights on the front work, never have on my rear two. but the relay doesn't make em flash for some reason. Are they supposed to be running lights as well as blinkers?

The ones in front are.

I would guess you have something wrong with your flasher module.

Talking Fixed!

I figured out that someone mickey moused the lower speedometer lightbulb connector, it was missing the insulator and spring, they just put some black electrical tape around the wire and smooshed it in!
still need to replace bliker relay, narrowed down that all has [ower it just doesn't blink. W/e she's good to go!!!!
