Default Ignition module question

Hey everyone , I purchased a 1997 heritage a couple months ago . Somewhere down the line it was converted to single fire Ignition with the brain box in the nose cone , but they left the factory module under the seat and still pluged in . I unplugged it and removed it and all is good. I did this to make a little room for a spring seat conversion Im about to start . Just asking , would there have been any reason for for them leaving the factory module in place and plugged in ??

Other than not wanting to bother w/pulling the old wires out, I can't think of a single reason to do so.
