tires .... currently riding a 97 fatboy , ignition ,cam ,s&s superE, . mostly two up,heritage saddlebags, ride long ,short, weekend runs . presently running D402 dunlops. decent tire. looking to see if there is better.i know iam gonna get as many opinions on this as stars in the sky . looking at conti milestone or a metz me880 marathon. i have talked to several people about the metz. good reports . so lets here what tires you run ,good, bad, or otherwise. thanx in advance.
I run the metz me 880 , hold good in the rain , hold good on tar snacks , cornors are FUN good milage both front & rear ,as long as you don't stop hard & burn off ever take off
I'm running the Dunlop 491 Elite 2's
They don't slip on anything. Well I did get the back tire to slip in the rain (when it was bald).
I got about 16k out of that back tire.
Still running the front.
I ran ME880s for a couple of sets and got 6-7k on the rears. Front is still good at 14k. Just switched to a D402 on the rear and haven't noticed a difference in handling, but I'm not very aggressive. I look to get closer to 10k out of a D402. We'll see.
the 402 s i am running got 11-12k out of rear and 18-20k out of front. good tire except last thousand got a little squirrlly. i ride agressively 80mph is cruising speed on slab, twistys are always fun. you getting 10k should be no problem.i am just looking for something different.
I've been running Continental Milestones for the last few years. I'm on my third pair now. I like them a lot better than the Dunlops. I don't think they last quite as long, but I'm more interested in tire performance than in mileage.
I know you are new here but some common subjects such as tires, oil, etc. have been covered and recovered many times, often doing a search will yield much more useful info than one thread.
not a ton of mileage on em yet, but I'm running Avon Venom's front and rear, and the difference from the (stock) Dunlop's was night and day
I have Dunlops on my 1988 Electra Glide and they're ok. But I have a set of Avon Venoms on my other bike, a big *** of a metric touring bike. Best set of tires I have ever put on a bike. I have over 16,000 miles on them right now and they look almost brand new. Rode them on a 7,500 mile roadtrip this past summer in 108 degree heat and they barely looked broken in when I got back.
They improved the handling of the bike tremendously, don't follow grooves in the road and are awesome in the rain. If they make them for your bike I would definitely get them. Cost a little more but well worth the difference.
