Default VOES or something else?

Went for a ride today and the bike quit on acceleration from a stop.No spark to the plugs.Fiddled and farted around and it started again.
Rode 5 more miles and it did it again, same scenario.Fiddle and farted some more. Finally got spark and it started again.
Long story short,it did the same thing twice more on the way home and after letting it sit for a bit, occasionally trying the starter, got spark and started.
I hate electrical Gremlins
Thanks in advance for any advice.
'96 bone stock except for Stage 1 with Dyna 2000 ignition system. 33K miles.

It's not the VOES, sounds electrical, coil, pickup/Module, or wires both primary and supply, and may be as far back as the battery wires, which I would check first if the lights were acting up at the same time!!!

No it wouldnt be the voes. but i would check for a deteriorating coil or the usual bad wiring or connector woes.
Try testing for a bad coil by letting it get to operating temp. and then spray the coil with water. If it dies you have a cracked coil .
What did you do while " fiddling and farting " ?

It's right there in the manual:

Check wiring, pull and clean the plugs, cleaning connections and generally hemming and hawing until it starts again.
Everything was good in that respect BTW.
It may well be a failing coil and I'll try the water check tonight.

Well it wasn't the coil. It's been too wet to ride but had a chance yesterday and borrowed a friends spare (same issue.) Let the backtracking of the electrical system begin.
The multi tester will be getting a workout.Have I said I hate Electrical Gremlins?

When my did that it turned out to be the hot wire to the coil. I was 600 miles from home when it happened. The wire had gotten pinched because the wire routed wrong at got pinched by the cover. Did not see it with initial inspection because it was so small. Not saying that is your problem, but that was my experience.

When it cuts out and it's always about the same amount of time before you get power back chances are its a breaker resetting. I've been down this road.

Thanks to a tip from my local Indy (the cycle shack) I took the cover off my nose cone to expose the ignition module.
Rode till it cut out and sprayed it with compressed air (can upside down) to release the cold propellant.Waited a minute and it fired right up.
So,looks like I'm in the market for an ignition module.Anything I should steer clear of?
Should I go back stock or upgrade to prepare for the upcoming cam change?
